Who is Eric Tarter Jr.?

Eric Tarter Jr. is a former medical assistant who worked at Penn State Medical Group and UPMC in Cumberland and Dauphin Counties of Pennsylvania. He is facing charges of Deviate Sexual Intercourse, Indecent Assault, Impersonating a Holder of a Professional License, and more, in association with both medical facilities. Tarter would enter rooms where patients had just seen a nurse, present himself as a doctor, and then proceed to sexually assault the victims.

Exploiting patients’ vulnerability under the guise of healthcare is an egregious act. The breach of trust in a sacred space meant for healing is a betrayal of professional ethics and a reprehensible abuse of power. Such heinous actions underscore the urgent need for stringent measures to safeguard patients and ensure the integrity of the healthcare system, emphasizing the imperative for thorough background checks and robust safeguards to protect individuals from falling prey to those who would exploit their positions for malicious intent.

You are not alone if Eric Tarter Jr. impacted you or your child.

How Can A Civil Lawsuit Help Victims Seek Justice For The Trauma They May Have Experienced by Eric Tarter Jr.?

There are many misunderstandings about why a survivor of sexual abuse would choose to file a civil lawsuit.   Sexual abuse takes away so much from the survivors and families impacted. Our society still struggles to find ways to repair the harm done by individual perpetrators and institutions that have covered up sexual abuse.

Filing a civil case can be an essential step for survivors and their families in their journey to slowly rebuild their lives and create pathways to healing. Motivation for filing a civil suit is often questioned and unfairly stereotyped as “all about money.” Filing a civil lawsuit can cast survivors as “money hungry” and is weaponized to shame and blame them even more. This couldn’t be further from the truth for survivors of child sexual abuse. The civil justice system offers victims more than just monetary benefits. It gives survivors access to justice, validation, exposure, confrontation, and ultimately some resolution. The resolution allows survivors of sexual abuse to understand and process what happened and create a new path forward without confusion, questions, and fear.
