Father Wilputte Alanson Sherwood was arrested in 1984 and 1989 for public indecency. He was also arrested and convicted in 1993 for sexual contact and attempted sexual contact with a 14- year-old boy at St. Benedict Church. Father Sherwood was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was released from jail in 2003. Father Sherwood disappeared from 2005 until he was arrested in 2008. He is currently on the Arizona sex offender registry.

Father Sherwood was ordained in 1975.
