Summary of sexual abuse allegations against Father Patrick J. Colleary:
In 2002, Father Patrick J. Colleary was accused of abusing an 11-year-old boy in 1979. He was arrested in December of 2002, but released on a technicality because the incident was reported to the police more than 7 years prior. Father Colleary then fled to Ireland, where he reportedly seduced a 17-year-old girl. In 2003, he was indicted of the abuse of another boy in the 1970s. Father Colleary’s extradition from Ireland was denied by an Irish judge.
The Diocese of Phoenix knew of at least one sexual abuse allegation against Colleary before it transferred the Colleary to a new parish.
Father Patrick J. Colleary was ordained in 1974.
