Father Mark N. Matson, a Theatine Father, was accused of the abuse of two children in Colorado in 1987, and then acquitted of sexually abusing another child in 1989 in California. Matson was convicted in 2000 in Hawaii of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy and was sentenced to 20 years in jail. A civil suit was filed in 2002 accusing him of further abuse. Another Colorado victim came forward in 2005, who alleged abuse in 1982, ultimately receiving $22,500 from the Theatine order. Another new civil suit was filed in 2010 for alleging abuse by Matson in a Colorado seminary in 1976. Father Matson is in prison and on the sex offender registry in Hawaii as of 2011. His parole was denied in 2012, but then granted in 2013.
