A Hudson Valley man is facing criminal charges for allegedly sexually abusing multiple child victims in a New York daycare and foster homes.
John Olson, 59, of Warwick, New York was arrested for multiple related charges for allegedly sexually abused multiple juveniles in both Orange and Delaware counties. In May, Olson was arrested in Andes, Delaware County for charges of predatory sexual assault against a child and endangering the welfare of a child.
Also in May, Olson was indicted by a grand jury in Delaware County for the charges of felony rape and multiple other related child sexual abuse charges.
In June, Olson indicted by an Orange County grand jury for the charges of attempted rape and multiple other related child sexual abuse charges. He was remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail, where he currently remains.
A Clinical Social Worker was Arrested for Failing to Report
Also arrested was clinical social worker Joan Parks, 80, of Mamakating, Sullivan County, who was also arrested in relation to these events for allegedly failing to report child abuse when being made aware, despite being a mandated reporter.
“The arrests were the result of a joint investigation by the New York State Police working in conjunction with Orange County Child Protective Services. It stemmed from allegations made that Olson sexually abused multiple juveniles in both Orange and Delaware counties,” New York State Police said in a press release on Thursday.

Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for adults in positions of power and trust to take advantage of their position to abuse victims, like Olson is alleged to have done in this case.
Cases of sexual abuse of children while under the care of adults in daycare and foster homes have not only resulted in criminal convictions as in this case, but also in civil judgments.
